A Prayer for Someone who Needs to Dust Off her Bible
It’s a noisy life we lead. Voices are beckoning, barking and bemoaning all the live long day. They scream through screens and seem to never cease. The decibels are deafening and we are left feeling exhausted and empty if these are the only voices we are exposing ourselves too.
There is another voice with the power to drown out all the others. Although full of force and enough inertia to obliterate this whole wide world, this voice, when heard properly, enters an ear bringing peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, love, joy, and self control.
Where do we find such a voice? In the thin pages of God’s Word. The Bible holds the hope and when we learn to love it’s words, we learn to love the Word Himself, Jesus.
I am a Jesus lover and a Bible lover. I don’t believe you can separate the two. On the contrary, I firmly believe you can only know each fully by knowing the other.
Today I am praying for the one who needs to dust off her Bible. My prayer comes from Psalm 119:103-105.
“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.
Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.”
I’m praying these words this way today:
“Father, I want your words to be what I crave. When I open them, may they satisfy my longings. Oh grant me understanding! Open my eyes and my heart to grasp what you are saying to me and to this world. May your word cause me to see where the missteps and mistaken paths are lurking. Would you use your word to illuminate the path you have set for me, lighting each step along the way.”
Dust off your Bible today and turn to this passage. Underline it. Pray it for yourself. Write the date next to it. Then tomorrow open it again and read a little more. See what He will do as you seek Him in His word.
