A Prayer for Someone who Needs to Lift her Eyes from her Circumstances
There were thousands of them. They were flitting westward as if life depended upon it. Their black and orange wings lit up the sky. The kids and I marveled as we witnessed this wonder. I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a lesson before me.
In the quiet depths of my heart, something stirred. I smiled and thanked the God of all creation for showing me His glorious sovereignty in the mere monarch butterfly.
He used those tiny winged creatures to take my eyes off the muck, mire and mundane underfoot, and lifted them heavenward, and I couldn’t help but say, thank you.
If you need to lift your eyes from your circumstance today, I’m going to invite you to pray something that my seem counterintuitive. We find the words in Psalm 100.
“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
Pray these words back to Him today like this,
“I will shout my joy to You today. Even though my circumstances may make me feel sad or lonely or in despair, I will worship you today with gladness. I will sing a song just for you. I will remember that I am Yours. You call me Your own, a little sheep in Your pasture. I will come into Your presence with thank yous. I will tell you how good You are even when this world tries to tell me otherwise. I will say Your name, the name that is above every name, Jesus, over and over, thanking You for the hope I have in You. You are good and Your love never fails me. You are the same yesterday, today and forever. You are faithful. Always.”
